What is felted wool?
For starters, felted wool is different from regular wool. Both of these fabrics have similar origins, but different manufacturing processes are used to obtain them. First, the raw wool fiber is cleaned and then broken into pieces. This creates a wool film, the main raw material for felt wool. To make felted wool slippers, a layer of raw wool is layered over and over again, formed into a shoe shape, boiled, then reshaped to the required shoe size, then left in the sun to shrink and dry. Wool has magical properties that turn the fibers into a thick, dense felt through a process of cooking and mixing.
Felt slippers are suitable for any weather
Homemade, natural wool slippers are thick, dense and look like they can be extremely hot, but this is just a deceptive appearance. Other synthetic slippers tend to overheat your feet without supporting any air circulation or ventilation. Wool is able to control its temperature, so when the weather is cold, wool slippers will warm you, when it's hot, they will help your feet to cool down and not get wet.
Wool is a breathable and moisture-absorbing fabric
When wearing synthetic slippers, they can cause you to sweat a lot, so the moisture will simply collect on your feet and seep into the slippers. After a while, it will start to emit an unpleasant smell, which will require frequent cleaning or other maintenance of the slippers. You won't waste a lot of time with such slippers, they will wear out quickly and look unattractive. Felted wool is a breathable material and also has moisture-absorbing properties. It is an antimicrobial fabric that prevents the accumulation of moisture and the spread of bacteria, so your feet will remain dry and odor-free.
Wool improves circulation and foot health
Medical professionals consider wool to be an allergenic fabric, which means that few people can have an allergic reaction to the fabric. Wool does not require any chemical additives that could cause allergies, rashes or itching. The non-abrasive nature of wool is the optimal choice for people with sensitive skin. Wool hair has a spiral crimp that gives the fabric a certain elasticity. This helps promote blood circulation in the legs for better body temperature control.
